The Cave at Espiritu Santo close to Partida

About:
This cave has a water depth of about 5 ft. so small boats or dinghies have no problem going all the way in. GREAT place to take a break from the sun, eat lunch or just relax. The inside beach is rocky, so don't plan on playing in the sand. The cave has about 35 ft. of length from the entrance to the shore  and about 25 ft. wide.

How to get there:
If you are anchored at Partida, go through the channel between Espiritu Santo and Partida, (watch the tide, maybe tilt up your motor and stay to the west of the channel), follow the shore-line South for about a mile. Refer to pix here to find cave entrance. Stay offshore a ways because there are a lot of big boulders close to the shore.

The rock stratification helps locate it. You can't see inside the cave from outside of course.  It's location is VERY aprox. 24 deg. 31.78 min N. and 110 deg 20.75 min W. If you visit there please take a GPS with you and  call me and and give me a more accurate position, will update this page, some pixs would also be nice for other cruisers.

CAUTION:

The prevailing wind in the afternoon is out of the east so there can be swells entering the cave at that time. Before 1:00 PM is recommended in normal weather.

Line up perpendicular to the coast with the cave at 12 o'clock and go straight in SLOWLY, keep an eye out on the bow for rocks on either side.

Skinny dipping  is allowed, but beware of tour Pangas, we were in there recently (8/2007) and a huge tour panga showed up out of nowhere with about 40 tourists. The water was crystal clear and warm. Thank goodness the tour guide saw our predicament and left hence-forth with a boat full of smiling  tourists.
